The research on Language Use and Public Life in Oradea and Bihor County 2020, initiated by the Bálványos Institute, took place in February – March and July – August this year. The research included a paper-based questionnaire survey. The data was collected by the public opinion research company TT Research & Communications in Cluj.
The aim of the research was to gain a better understanding of the language use habits and linguistic ideologies of Hungarians in Bihor County and Oradea, and to inquire about certain aspects of public life. In particular, the questionnaire asked about satisfaction with the development of the county and the city, the work of the leaders of the public institutions, certain aspects of voter behaviour, as well as various local public policy issues that have been of concern to the public in Oradea over the past year. From a linguistic perspective, we asked about language usage habits and ideologies, the linguistic environment, various aspects of economic ethnocentrism, as well as the perceived attitudes of Romanians towards Hungarians.
The survey data are representative for both Oradea and Bihor County.
