On Friday, the book entitled \u201cAnti-Hungarian Attitudes in Romania – Questionnaire Survey, The Content Analysis of Textbooks Used in Public Education and of The Romanian Social Media\u201d, published by the Szekler Institute for Public Policies and the B\u00e1lv\u00e1nyos Institute, was presented in Cluj-Napoca. At the book launch, the authors talked to experts about the objectives of the research behind the publication, the institutional mechanisms that reproduce anti-Hungarian attitudes, the \u201cinstitutional ghetto of Hungarians\u201d.<\/p>\n
The book entitled \u201cAnti-Hungarian Attitudes in Romania – Questionnaire Survey, The Content Analysis of Textbooks Used in Public Education and of The Romanian Social Media\u201d, the result of the cooperation and joint efforts of the Szekler Institute for Public Policies and the B\u00e1lv\u00e1nyos Institute, was presented in Cluj-Napoca on Friday afternoon in the presence of a large audience. The three authors of the book, Tam\u00e1s Kiss, Tibor Tor\u00f3 and Zal\u00e1n Tam\u00e1s Jakab, as well as various experts on the topic, lawyer Andr\u00e1s Bethlendi, the journalist Szil\u00e1rd Horv\u00e1th-Kov\u00e1cs, and the political scientist Istv\u00e1n Gerg\u0151 Sz\u00e9kely, were present at the event. Tibor Tor\u00f3, political scientist, sociologist and research director of the B\u00e1lv\u00e1nyos Institute, highlighted in his introduction that the UN has dedicated the year 2021 to the fight against online hate speech, which is why the publication is very timely. Istv\u00e1n Gerg\u0151 Sz\u00e9kely, the Director of Research of the Szekler Institute for Public Policies, reminded that this was not the first joint work of the two institutes: they have previously worked together on the issue of regional identity, and that they hoped to present the results of a new joint research soon.<\/p>\n
The book contains four chapters: the first two are based on public surveys \u2013 conducted by phone and online instead of face-to-face interviews, – due to the epidemic situation -, the third chapter is about the representation of Hungarians in Romanian textbooks, while the fourth part focuses on the presence of Hungarians in the political public sphere and in the \u201cmainstream\u201d press, based on the Romanian social media sites, posts and comments.<\/p>\n
